Digital traces on paper
New Ph.D. thesis gives a nuanced insight into young students´digital literacy and an educational system in transition from printed to digital text standards.
In her thesis “Digital traces on paper“ Mie Bligaard Christoffersen examines the challenges of upper secondary school students who have grown up with digital text standards when they try to live up to the official text convention in upper secondary school. The official convention is texts written and submitted digitally but conceived as texts printed on
paper. Christoffersen states that the students’ digital literacy shows shortcomings when it comes to the school's digital text systems. The students need instruction in the use of these digital text systems and in the differences between digital text genres (e.g. the blog) and text genres conceived for print (e.g. the essay).
