How do people create meaning when they communicate?

New PhD dissertation investigates how people create meaning when communicating in general and when communicating about unprotected intercourse in particular.

In his Ph.D thesis “Linguistic signification in theory and practice. A theoretical and empirical development of the integrated view of language “ Bjarke Damm expands on integrated linguistics, showing that it is possible to investigate linguistic meaning-making
empirically, even though the theory used sees linguistic signs as unique.

The thesis proposes insights for official communication in health areas regarding how men have intercourse with other men and negotiate the meaning of unprotected sex. That can be helpful in explaining the increase of HIV-positive in this particular group.
