Icelandic culture prize bestowed on assoc. prof. Erik Skyum-Nielsen
Thursday 10 September an Icelandic culture prize of distinction was bestowed on Erik Skyum-Nielsen. The prize Orðstir (~ reputation) is a newly established mark of honour which is awarded during the literature festival in Reykjavik. The prize is dedicated to translators who have contributed to furthering the knowledge of Icelandic literature outside of Iceland. In addition to the honour and an art present the receiver of the prize is also awarded 350.000 Icelandic kroner.
In 2015 the prize was bestowed on Erik Skyum-Nielsen for his translations of more than fifty novels, plays and collections of short stories/ poems/essays as well as to Catherine Eyjólfsson, translator of literature from Icelandic to French. As part of the festival Erik Skyum-Nielsen and Catherine Eyjólfsson partook in a panel discussion on two authors they have both translated, namely Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir and Bergsveinn Birgisson.
