Media Culture & Cross Media Analysis

The purpose of the research group is to establish a media research forum specializing in the study of current media culture. Central to the group’s activity is the question of how the forms and genres of media (in cinema, television and social media) are developed, integrated and presented on digital platforms and of how participant- and fan culture contribute in creating new media narratives and forms of communication. The group also focuses on the investigation of digital media cultures and environments as a starting point for new methods of learning as well as forms of education.

The theoretical framework consists of a combination of different media research methods and theories including media sociology, cultural theory and genre theory, reception theory, medium theory and empirical methods.

Research areas include

  • Cross media analysis and fan culture
  • E-learning and education
  • Celebrity culture and digital media genres
  • Contemporary TV series – aesthetics and genres

The aim of the research group is from the outset to strengthen the media research at the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics and create a breeding ground to further media research co-operation.

Activities

  • The research group organizes a ’Media Day’ as part of the Danish study programme (open research seminar twice a year).
  • Helle Kannik Haastrup co-organized the conference European Cinemas, Intercultural Meetings: Aesthetics, Politics, Industry, History in the fall 2015.
