Characteristics of the VARHS Data and Other Data Sources
Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Book chapter › Research › peer-review
The VARHS was first implemented in 2002 when it was realized that more information on household resources and the interaction of resources was needed in Viet Nam. From 2006 and onwards, households from twelve provinces are surveyed biennially and data collected. The studies of this book almost exclusively rely on households that are present in all VARHS datasets between 2006 and 2014, which covers 2,162 households being interviewed five times. The sample of VARHS households resembles, to a large extent, the samples in the representative VHLSS datasets and the 2009 population census. This implies that the results put together in this book are likely to apply to a more extensive part of the Vietnamese population than initially planned for.
