Sean Vrieland

Associate Professor

My main research area is the development of the Nordic languages and their written sources, especially Late Medieval and Early Modern manuscripts. In December 2017 I defended my Ph.D. dissertation about the medieval language of Gotland, Old Gutnish, and one of its few written sources, a post-medieval manuscript copied by a Danish priest on the island in the sixteenth century.

Other areas of interest include the various philological disciplines, including paleography, codicology, and textual criticism.
