Ian Christie-Miller: Watermark Research - New Light on the English Reformation.

The English Reformation started during the turbulent reign of King Henry VIII (d. 1547). In the reigns of his son and two daughters violent religious fluctuations occurred.

In this talk digitised images of watermarks (from manuscripts and printed books held in California, London and Germany) will be shown which reflect those fluctuations, and which illustrate trading patterns.

The talk acknowledges the essential dependence of research on access to original materials. It also highlights ways in which digitisation is creating new dimensions for research.
Finally there will be a demonstration of the Multiple Images with Zero Movement (MIZM) procedure. MIZM allows different images eg white or Infra Red front lit and white or Infra Red back lit to be so combined as to ‘remove' unwanted data.
