About Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism

Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism is a series published by Center for Studies in Danish as a Second and Foreign Language, which is located at Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen.

Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism is concerned with:

  • Bilingualism and multilingualism;
  • Linguistic and cultural minorities;
  • Bilingual and multilingual education;
  • Danish as a foreign and second language;
  • Training teachers to teach immigrants and refugees;
  • And related themes.

The first book in the series was published in 1985, and Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism now has a back catalogue that lists more than 70 publications. The series contains contributions from both Danish and international research in bilingualism, multilingualism and Danish as a foreign and second language among other themes.  List of publications.

Today Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism publishes about 4 issues a year. The series publishes both in English and in Danish, and the publications are either revised dissertations or anthologies that collect articles concerned with a specific field of study 

Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism recently started to publish e-books, and future publications will mainly be electronic. The e-books are available as free e-books online, which you can download from Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism’s webpage. Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism has furthermore begun a digitalisation project of titles from the series’ back catalogue. A major part of them will therefore gradually be republished as free e-books on this webpage.

Some publications will still be published in printed form, just like various titles in Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism’s back catalogue can still be purchased in printed form. The publications in printed form can be purchased at Publikoms webshop.

Besides the main series, Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism also includes two series: Studies in Parallel Language Use and The Køge Series.

Studies in Parallel Language Use is published by Centre for Internationalisation and Parallel Language Use, which is located at Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen. The series is concerned with parallel language use, language policy and assessment of language competencies in an academic context among other thems and publishes about 2 issues a year.

The series Studies in Parallel Language Use likewise mainly publishes free e-books online, and these can be downloaded at Centre for Internationalisation and Parallel Language Use’s webpage.

The Køge Series lists 17 titles published between 1992 and 2008. The series is based on the Køge Project, which was a longitudinal study of bilingual children’s linguistic development. Publications in the Køge Series will also be republished as free e-books online.
